Plenary session - the post-Covid-19 future

As the UK recovers from the Covid-19 pandemic what will its short to medium term legacy for the logistics sector? Will the spike in online retail prove to be temporary or has this acceleration in an existing trend spell the demise of the high street? What other sectors such as infrastructure should 3PLs be looking at? The Road to Zero – putting in the infrastructure

The Road to Zero will require enormous changes to the refuelling infrastructure as well as developing the right vehicles. Hydrogen for example is only clean if it is made from renewable electricity, so how will this be achieved? Recharging large fleets of electric vehicles can over-stretch local power networks so smart charging will be needed rather than just bigger wires and transformers. And can local authorities lead the horse to water by building low carbon fuelling stations ahead of demand?

Q&A

Earned Recognition

Earned Recognition is the DVSA’s flagship scheme to enable highly compliant operators to report to the DVSA how they are scoring a number of key performance indicators and as long as they stay in the blue their vehicles should avoid being delayed at precautionary roadside checks. This will enable the DVSA to focus resources on the seriously non-compliant. Is the scheme worth making the effort to join and how hard is it really?

While the Covid-19 pandemic pushed Brexit off the front pages December 2020 and the end of the UK’s transition period is looming. What will be the effect on UK operators especially in terms of finding the right people once the doors have closed – at least partly – on employing EU nationals? Also just what is the Irish backstop and how can goods flow freely between the UK and EU across the Irish borders when the UK leaves the Customs Union?
