The Road to Zero will require enormous changes to the refuelling infrastructure as well as developing the right vehicles. Hydrogen for example is only clean if it is made from renewable electricity, so how will this be achieved? Recharging large fleets of electric vehicles can over-stretch local power networks so smart charging will be needed rather than just bigger wires and transformers. And can local authorities lead the horse to water by building low carbon fuelling stations ahead of demand?

This will enable the DVSA to focus resources on the seriously non-compliant. Is the scheme worth making the effort to join and how hard is it really?

What will be the effect on UK operators especially in terms of finding the right people once the doors have closed – at least partly – on employing EU nationals? Also just what is the Irish backstop and how can goods flow freely between the UK and EU across the Irish borders when the UK leaves the Customs Union?
